WHAT IS PRE-AUTHORISATION ON A CREDIT CARD

When a credit card is pre-authorised, no funds are immediately deducted from the cardholder’s account. Instead, a temporary hold is placed on a specified amount, ensuring sufficient funds are available for a potential transaction. This hold acts as a security measure, verifying the card’s validity and available balance without processing an actual charge. The pre-authorisation does not constitute a payment but temporarily reduces the cardholder’s available credit limit until the hold is either released or converted into a final transaction.

The duration of a pre-authorisation hold depends on the issuing bank’s policies and may last for several days. If the transaction proceeds, the held amount is either charged in full or adjusted to reflect the actual transaction cost, with any excess funds released. If the transaction is cancelled or does not proceed, the pre-authorisation hold expires, and the funds become available again. Cardholders should contact their bank for specific details on pre-authorisation policies and the timeline for fund releases.

CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS

All payments for services by credit cards are processed directly through National Australia Bank (NAB) Transact credit card facilities. Transactions are securely handled via NAB’s payment gateway, ensuring compliance with industry security standards. Payments will only be accepted through authorised credit or debit cards, and the cardholder must ensure sufficient funds are available at the time of transaction. The service provider does not store or have access to card details, as all transactions are processed through NAB’s secure system. By proceeding with payment, the cardholder agrees to NAB’s payment processing terms and acknowledges that transaction approvals and declines are subject to the issuing bank’s policies.
